The population of Marrakech was estimated at 1 million people as of 2009 with about 50% being urban dwellers.

Marrakech is a city with a rich history and culture. It is known as the "Red City" or the "Ochre City".

The red color of Marrakech comes from the clay used in local buildings, which was once found at a nearby riverbed called Oued Ziz.

The Koutoubia Mosque is visible from many points of the city.

The Koutoubia Mosque is the most visible landmark in Marrakech and is a symbol of the city. Located at Bab Agnaou, it was built by Hafsid Sultan Abu Inan Ghalib around 1251 CE. It is also known as Minaret el-Hajar or minaret el-Jauf (minaret of jauf).

It was restored in 1984 and now has a dome with eight towers that rise above its roofline like fingers reaching up toward heaven. It has become one of Morocco's top tourist attractions since its restoration, because it offers stunning views over Marrakech from its rooftop terraces where you can see all over this bustling city!

In 1147, the Almohad ruler Abd al-Mu'min turned Marrakesh into his capital and fortified the city through the construction of madrasas, mosques, kasbahs, palaces, and a huge wall with no less than 300 towers.

The Almohads were Muslims who had been expelled from Spain in 1210 by Alfonso VIII of Castile. They founded their own empire in North Africa—the Maghreb—and introduced Islam to that region. The name "Almohad" comes from Arabic: "the Moors", referring to their Spanish origin and military tactics of using horses as weapons rather than camels or elephants (which were more common at that time).

The traditional name for a garden or royal garden in Moroccan Arabic is m'naḍara (مناضرة / pronounced [menaːðara]).

The traditional name for a garden or royal garden in Moroccan Arabic is m'naḍara (مناضرة / pronounced [menaːðara]). This word has an interesting history and meaning. It originated from the same root as nomad, which means “one who wanders” or “one who travels.” In this case, however, it refers to someone who moves around constantly—someone like me!

The word also features itself prominently in some of our most famous poetry:

  • In "The Prisoner's Song" by Rumi there is mention of "the silent people" who live their lives within walls made from sandstone blocks quarried from the mountainside nearby."

Step outside into these gardens today! They are filled with beauty and tranquility; they provide you with opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment; they allow you an opportunity to be creative while productive at work; they encourage meditation among many other things!

The old town is home to many buildings of historical interest including Madrassa Ben Youssef built in 1564, Saadian tombs built in 1557–1603 and El Bahia Palace built in 1866 by instruction of Ahmed ben Moussa known as Si Moussa.

The Madrassa Ben Youssef was designed by a student of Al-Hassan ibn Ali Zayni Dahmani who studied under Thutmose III. The building features an open courtyard surrounded by galleries encircling three sides, with four towers at each corner and two at the centre for additional support. The interior has two floors with arches supporting the roof above them which are decorated with floral motifs inspired by those found on Greek vases or Roman aqueducts (see image).

Marrakech has been a tourist destination for years.

Marrakech has been a tourist destination for years, and it's not just Europeans who come here to visit. Marrakech is an extremely popular destination among Arabs and Americans alike. The city has a rich history that can be seen in its architecture, culture and cuisine.

Marrakech is also known as the "blue city" because of its beautiful blue buildings (especially during sunset). It’s easy to see why it was once considered one of Africa's most beautiful cities!

Conclusion

Marrakech is the most beautiful city in the world. It has an amazing history, culture and scenery. There are so many things to see in Marrakech that it's hard to pick just one! If you're visiting Morocco soon then I would highly recommend staying at least a few days in Marrakech because there are so many things worth seeing.
